Description

In order to perform a comprehensive nutrition assessment, dietitians must learn to perform nutrition-focused physical exam techniques and functional tests. Getting clinical dietitians to the bedside to perform these activities has many advantages including earlier intervention and development of a thorough nutrition care plan as well as increased recognition as a valuable member of the healthcare team.

  2. Describe functional parameters used to assess nutritional status

Speaker

Cindy Hamilton, LD CNSD MS RD

Cindy Hamilton is currently the Director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the Cleveland Clinic. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and her Master’s in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Her clinical career has been dedicated to the care of patients requiring nutrition support, first as a Critical Care dietitian at University Hospitals of Cleveland then joining the Nutrition Support Team at the Cleveland Clinic. She is the author or co-author of several articles and book chapters, co-editor of Cleveland Clinic’s Nutrition Support Team hand book, and has given numerous presentations on today’s topic, Nutrition-focused physical exam. Cindy has served in a multitude of roles for the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, the Ohio Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and currently serves as the Chair for the dietetic practice group, Dietitians in Nutrition Support.
